Are you being asked to serve as a Godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation? St. Patrick Catholic Church is happy to assist registered parishioners who meet the Catholic Church’s requirements.
Before requesting a Letter of Good Standing, please review the checklist below. To qualify, you must be able to affirm all of the following:
Godparent/Sponsor Eligibility Checklist
- I am at least 16 years of age.
- I have received all three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist (First Holy Communion), and Confirmation.
- I participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and receive the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Reconciliation at least annually.
- I understand that I am assuming the responsibility of being a good role model for the person I am sponsoring through my life of prayer and by my Catholic example.
- I believe all that the Catholic Church professes and teaches, and I make a sincere effort to incorporate these teachings into my daily life.
- I am not the mother or father of the person to be baptized or confirmed.
In addition, do either of these apply to you:
- If married, I am married in a Catholic Church or in accordance with the requirements of the Catholic Church.
- If I am unmarried, I am living chastely.

Young Adults Whose Parents Are St. Patrick Parishioners
If you are a young adult whose parents are still registered members of St. Patrick Catholic Church, but you have not registered with a parish on your own, please contact the nearest Catholic church to your current residence.
Let them know that you live within their geographical parish boundaries and need a Letter of Good Standing to serve as a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor. The parish serving your current residence will be the appropriate parish to contact.
