VBS Opening Prayer

Let us pray, God of all power and might, you are the giver of all that is good. Help us love you with all our heart, strengthen us in true faith, provide us with all we need, and keep us safe in your care; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

VBS Opening/Closing Song, “Fly”

Activity
Emotional Charades: Talk with your child and work together to come up with a list of different emotions that we experience.  Write each emotion on a small piece of paper and place emotions in a hat/bowl.  Take turns drawing emotions and acting them out.  The other player will try to identify the emotion being acted out.
Playdough Emojis:  Use playdough to create faces that represent the different emotions that you listed.  If you don’t have playdough, just draw/paint emotions.

Saint of the Day
St. Dominic Savio was born in Spain circa 1000.  As a young man he became a monk.  He was the abbot of a monastery in Castille and with other monks, restored the monastery from being in terrible shape, both physically and spiritually.  It was a center of learning and liturgy in that part of Spain and many healings were reported there.  St. Dominic also rescued Christian slaves from the Moors.  He is one of Spain's most beloved saints. Download/print the coloring page here.

Snack (Suggested)
“Troubled Hearts”
De-stem the strawberries.  Holding the strawberry upright, slice the strawberry vertically.  The resulting slices should like a heart.
Place strawberry “hearts” on a plate and spoon a dollop of whipped topping next to the “hearts.”

Talk with your child:  Ask your child to spoon some whipped topping on top of a heart.  That reminds us of how God’s love surrounds us in hard times.

VBS Closing Prayer

Let us pray, The time has come, O Lord, for us to leave this place; guide us and protect us and lead us in thy grace.
Wherever life may take us as we go about our separate ways, help us share with others the things we’ve shared today.
May the peace of God the Father, and the love of Christ, His Son, guide us in the days ahead and strengthen us, each one.
May the blessings of the Spirit fill us from within; God bless us and return us to this fellowship once again. Amen.
