The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is the pathway of preparation for those who desire to become Catholic and be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Adapted for our modern times, it is a restoration of an ancient Christian practice that resembles the journey catechumens (unbaptized) in the early church undertook in preparation to be baptized and received into the Catholic faith.
The OCIA is not a program, but rather a process of ongoing conversion to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ towards spiritual maturity as a missionary disciple in the Church. Dedication to the process involves individual spiritual formation and preparation, investigation and discernment of the Catholic faith, and moments of public commitment to one’s pursuit of holiness.
This pathway is designed for those who are unbaptized or coming from another religion, baptized Christians who are seeking to become Catholic, and baptized Catholics who desire to complete their Sacraments of Initiation.
